President
John Dramani Mahama is likely to remain the president of Ghana as all
the interim results declared so far pointed to his emergence in the
tightly contested election.
The
Ghanaian election commission claims it has a confidence level of 98 per
cent in the results declared so far and added that the 14
constituencies left to be declared represented about 800,000 votes
Mr.
Mahama, 54, of the National Democratic Congress became the president of
Ghana in July after the death of his former president Prof. John Atta
Mills.
Nana
Akufor Addo, 68, of the New Patriotic Party is standing election for
the second time after losing the election to Mr. Mills in 2008
The
ECOWAS election observation group claims there have never been any
report of rigging or malpractice as against the rumor being peddled by
some section.
With
the success of the year 2012 election, Ghana has once again proven to
the world that his democracy is maturing, and the country is politically
