But
Torres and the Blues have endured a testing start to the season,
crashing out of the UEFA Champions League at the group stage and sliding
10 points adrift of leaders Manchester United, with the striker's brace
in the 6-1 win over Nordsjaelland ending a run of just one goal from
his previous 11 outings.
Roberto
Di Matteo paid for that slump in form with his job, with new manager
Rafa Benitez finding himself regularly booed by the home supporters
during his four games in charge and still to record a win in the Premier
League ahead of Saturday's trip to Sunderland.
Torres
relishes his role as the focal point up front and told the Daily
Mirror: "I'm very happy because it's what I have been doing in the past
and the role I like to get.
"Hopefully
it can be like this until the end of the season. We still have to
improve other things as a team but I think we have the players. We need
more time.
"We
have been very good defensively this season. But in the middle we have
huge quality and those kinds of players have to be the key for us
because we need to play for them and the strikers need to understand
what they like to do to score more goals.
"It's
just a matter of time and training and being sure that we understand
each other. With [Juan] Mata I have been playing for many years in the
national team and last season at Chelsea. But Oscar and Eden [Hazard]
have just arrived and we need to train more to improve."
